February BPCA meeting

The Wingnuts went to the Battery Park Civic Association meeting last night. It was not highly attended. The two things of most significance seemed to be the progress of a community center and how much emphasis was placed on police issues at the meeting.
It seemed like a good idea to have a representative from the Richmond Fire Department there, but pretty ineffective since there were not many folks there. Well over half of the attendees were white. Three out of four of the peoplenin charge were white.
Most of the attendees were at least in their thirties it seemed. I would say us three wingnuts represented the only under 30 people there.
Another thing that I noticed is that we didn’t go around and do introductions at all, which made for a pretty sterile environment. Also, Richard one of the in charge people, maybe VP, was playing with his cellphone during the meeting while sitting front and center, with the sound turned on. And anothe person was on a computer that kept making disruptive noises.
Was shocked to hear that the richmond police deployed a plane in order to catch a purse snatcher. Seems like a wasteful use of tax dollars.
But I was glad to have finally been able to attend again, even if I had a cold wet butt from riding my bike in the sleet to get there.
More later

Mo Glad you came out. Since you criticize me first about the cell use without asking. I was texting someone to some information to share with the group and sent one message that was personal.

The deployement of the plane for the “purse snatching” was cause it was a purse snatching but the guy used a gun to snatch the purse.

As for the low turn out they were calling for snow and freezing rain. Richard T. behind the desk he is a parks and recs employee I can ask him to be quieter but he doesn’t have to.

So when criticize me again why don’t you just me first.

You can still turn a phone on silent. I used my phone once during the meeting, on silent, so as to not disrupt others.

Even if a gun was used in the purse snatching, I still think deploying a plane is excessive.

You don’t have to tell me about the freezing rain, I rode my bike through it to get to the meeting, and my two house mates walked through it.

I was at the BPCA meeting with my wife – neither of us are over thirty. Nice age profiling.

Fair enough Jon, glad to know that there was a larger variety of folks there.

    Mo,

Just in case you were interested, if not please ignore. The “white people in charge” of the association, did not run for that office. They did not seek the office, nor did they want the office. They were the ONLY ones willing to take the office., after the former president pretty much shut the BPCA down and took off with all of the treasury. I was on the board as the new treasurer, but I have since resigned, and walked away from the BPCA. From what I can see, from going to just about ALL of the meetings before I resigned, there are no racial issues going on, it is more of an age issue. This is just my opinion so take it for what it is worth. The elders of the community are not that up to change, and will fight to keep things from changing, good or bad. An example, the marker in the park dedicated to Arthur Ashe, when the park was restored, the maker was place on the opposite side area that it was before the flood. A large area was planted and “beautified” for the marker. The elder citizens fought the city to have the marker returned to its original place, making the plantings pretty much a waste of time that the younger citizens planted. Seems pretty petty to me. A dedicated maker is just that, no matter where it is.

P.S. I showed Richard how to silence his phone for future meetings….LOL

      Scott-
Definitely interested on more information on pretty much any subject. Thank you for adding to the discussion.
And thanks for teaching Richard how to silence his phone : )

Sorry I should have silence my phone. It was a new phone and couldn’t figure it out. That was rude of me. FYI on the marker, where it is now it is right next to a rain drain. So if someone with small feet (like a child) walk up to marker, which people will do, their foot will go through the grate.
