Report Back from the 6th District Meeting

On Saturday at 10am, there was a 6th District Town Meeting with Ellen Robertson at The Goal Post on North Avenue.

The attendance was intense- probably 40 to 50 people. The majority of the attendees were black, with a few white folks too. Though most of the white folks were not residents, but were coming to represent a project or government agency etc. that was affecting our area.

The meeting was boisterous, I don’t know very much about Ellen Robertson politically, but she is an entertaining facilitator. The meeting really helped me get a better feel for how folks are affected by issues such as the drop in property assessments in our area. There were many senior citizens and a few younger children.

Folks were friendly and I felt like I was much more in touch with my community after the meeting. I even managed to catch up with folks from the Southern Barton Heights Civic Association (they have meetings once every two months apparently, which has made them more elusive). The SBHCA people were really excited that I was excited about a block party. They want to close off all 4 blocks of Barton Avenue here and have a huge event, which sounds super fun.

I might add more to this post later, but generally, this was how I felt after the event.
